All Things Basketball with GD - Origin and Olympics Gold edition

The All Things Basketball with GD podcast - the origin & Olympic Gold edition

Show Notes:

Origin (00:28)

A span of 40 years of following the NBA inspired by my dad as well as my uncles growing up. My favorite team was (and still is) the Knicks. Saw the metamorphosis of the league from a tape delay product to the Magic & Bird era to the MJ era to the Shaq & Kobe era to the SA Spurs dynasty of sorts to the LeBron era. My passion for fantasy basketball came in 2012 through the influence of my late co-worker Lonnie Gellman who played in a long running fantasy basketball league. Been involved in leagues ever since.

Olympics mens basketball (03:18)

Despite losing 2 exhibition games & the opening game of the Olympics, the mens team seized their 4th straight gold medal in Japan's Olympics triumphing over France, 87-82. The team was led by Kevin Durant (29 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists with a block) and Jayson Tatum (19 points, 7 rebounds with a steal) as well as Bam Adebayo's activity of the defensive end (5 defensive rebounds, 3 blocks and a steal) and Jrue Holiday's stellar defense on Evan Fournier. Fournier did lead France in scoring along with Rudy Gobert (16 points). Fournier only shot 5-15 FG% (2-9 from 3 point range). Coach Greg Popovich did a masterful job allowing to Gobert to find his offense as he wasn't a defensive presence inside like he normally is.

Olympics womens basketball (10:58):

The US womens team wins their 7th straight gold medal marking back to 1996. The team was led by Brittany Griner, A'ja Wilson & Breanna Stewart - the most formidable front line in the Olympics. Sue Bird & Diana Taurasi walked away with their unprecedented 5th gold medal, the most among both men & women hoopers. Coach Dawn Staley also will walk away from coaching the women. She herself has been affiliated as either a player or coach with those 7 straight gold medals. And kudos to Japan who as the host team received a silver medal.
